Mothers & Daughters (2018)
This film camera was my first ever camera given to me by my mom, she and I didn't realize the mirror was broken but luckily these were the shots I was able to recover with my friend Matt, who then lent me his digital camera to finish out this series for my first exhibition, Nosotrxs. These are all Mexican American mothers and daughters, I asked each duo to pick a color they both liked and we sat in their living rooms and did each others' makeup and talked about life. I wanted to depict the powerful bond between a mom and her daughter. My mom and I were supposed to take a photo together, but we were unable to because she passed away during this project. I look back at this project with a lot of warmth because although we never got a photo together, she gave me the camera that took all the photos.

Pink & Stores
(2018 - ongoing)
My obsession with business as art began as nostalgia over my own parents owning a linen store in Highland Park, California. It was called Belen's Linens and my family sold San Marcos cobijas along with popular designs in the 90s. We had sets of all the latest cartoons & franchises being marketed to kids. This was back when the bedding linen packs came with a fitted bed sheet, two pillowcases, a comforter, and a flat sheet. King, queen, XL, and twin. Things are very different now, but I think about them a lot - especially when I enter family owned businesses - and what it means to own a business in the U.S. as working class immigrants and how that risk can be accidental, beautiful nostalgia to a kid.

Archive of Nature (2017 - ongoing)
There is something that feels true about shooting people out in nature that I can't replicate in a studio environment. Some of these are shot on Iphone, some on digital cameras. Through the years I have gotten more comfortable with shooting people as they are vs. worrying so much about styling them and that is reflected here through the years.
