ARTWORK DETAILS:
La Virgen has long been a symbol used of resistance against oppression.
I made it thinking about how Palestinians are Indigenous to their land because they take care of it and their bonds to the olive trees. This is made with two block prints, one mimicking traditional Palestinian design and the interior featuring olives, roses, doves, stars, and four cuetlaxochitl flowers. The banner reads "Liberation" in Arabic.
I chose These Olive Trees to distribute with the proceeds because I believe we should show our solidarity with Palestinians by protecting and sharing their stories in our communities. We will preserve Palestinian stories and Palestine will be free.
